The small hills near town of Shumen are situated in the middle of the north Bulgarian planes and they are maybe the best starting place for long distance flights. The best achievements from these starts are: in east direction - 90 km to the seacoast; in west direction - 135 km to the town of Gorna Oryahovitza; in norht direction - 100 km to the town of Silistra (Bulgarian-Romanian border); in south-west - 216 km (current national record) to the Rodopi mountains.
